HOW OUR PRODUCTS ARE MEASURED

The dimensions of our doors reflect the distance from the outer edge of one jamb to the outer edge of the opposite jamb. For example:

  • A door listed as 72” x 96” means that 72” is the total width measured from one outer jamb edge to the other (not the width of the door panel itself).
  • 96” is the total height measured from the top of the jamb to the bottom of the built-in steel threshold (not the height of the door panel).
RECOMMENDED ROUGH OPENING

To facilitate a smooth installation, we suggest the following rough opening adjustments:

  • Width: Make the rough opening ½” to 1” wider than the door size listed. This provides enough clearance to properly align and level the jamb.
  • Height: Ensure the rough opening is ½” to 1” taller than the listed door size to allow for proper placement and leveling of the jamb.
EXAMPLE

If you order a 72” x 96” iron door, the measurements indicate:

  • 72” width is the total measurement across the jambs’ outer edges.
  • 96” height includes the jamb from the top edge down to the bottom of the built-in threshold.

For best results, ensure your rough opening exceeds the listed dimensions by the recommended allowances.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DOOR SWING DIRECTION

Many people don’t give much thought to the direction their door swings. It’s such a natural motion that you only notice when the door doesn’t open the way you expect.

However, understanding door swing direction is essential when purchasing a new door. Knowing this ensures you avoid costly mistakes when making a selection.

In this guide, we will explain the different types of door swing directions and help you determine whether your door is right-handed or left-handed.

TYPES OF DOOR SWING

Before we dive into determining a door’s swing direction, it’s important to understand the types of swing.

FINISH

Standard doors typically swing in one of four ways:

  • Left-hand inswing (LHI)
  • Left-hand outswing (LHO)
  • Right-hand inswing (RHI)
  • Right-hand outswing (RHO)
Pivot Doors

Pivot doors differ from standard doors in a key way:

  • Their hinges are located at the top and bottom of the door rather than along the sides.

These doors can swing either inward or outward, similar to standard doors. Some pivot doors also have a 180-degree swing, enabling them to open parallel to the wall for a sleek, modern look.

HOW TO DETERMINE DOOR SWING DIRECTION

Understanding your door’s swing direction is critical for selecting the right product. For example, installing an outswing door in an inswing frame requires additional adjustments to the hinges and frame, complicating the installation process. Follow these steps to determine your door’s swing direction:

Step 1: Learn the Basics

Understanding your door’s swing direction is critical for selecting the right product. For example, installing an outswing door in an inswing frame requires additional adjustments to the hinges and frame, complicating the installation process. Follow these steps to determine your door’s swing direction:

  • Inswing Doors: Push the door from the outside to open it.
  • Outswing Doors: Pull the door from the outside to open it.
  • Left-Hand Door: Hinges are on the left when viewed from outside.
  • Right-Hand Door: Hinges are on the right when viewed from outside.
Step 1: Learn the Basics

Understanding your door’s swing direction is critical for selecting the right product. For example, installing an outswing door in an inswing frame requires additional adjustments to the hinges and frame, complicating the installation process. Follow these steps to determine your door’s swing direction:

Step 2: Stand Outside the Door

For exterior doors, stand on the side facing the street. For interior doors, consider the room you’re entering (e.g., the kitchen from the living room).

Step 3: Determine Inswing or Outswing

Open the door:

  • If you pull the door open, it’s an outswing door.
  • If you push it inward, it’s an inswing door.
Step 4: Locate the Hinges

Look for the hinges on the door frame while standing outside:

  • Visible hinges indicate an outswing door.
  • Hidden hinges suggest an inswing door (unless hidden hinges are used for design purposes).

Step 5: Identify the Hinge Side

Check which side of the door the hinges are on:

  • Hinges on the right mean a right-hand door.
  • Hinges on the left mean a left-hand door.
Perform a Handedness Test
  • Stand outside and close the door.
  • Turn your back to the hinges and grab the knob with the hand closest to it (no reaching across your body).
  • If you open the door without moving out of the way, note your hand:
  1. Right hand: Right-hand inswing.
  2. Left hand: Left-hand inswing.
  • If you need to step back, note your hand:
  1. Right hand: Right-hand outswing.
  2. Left hand: Left-hand outswing.

Double-check your results to avoid mistakes when selecting doors and hardware.

Glass Type Description

Our dual-pane tempered glass doors feature 1” T-Bar Low-E glass, designed to balance durability and clarity. Here's what you need to know about our glass options:

  • Low-E Glass: Clear, completely see-through glass with excellent energy efficiency.
  • Completely Transparent Design: Provides an unobstructed view while maintaining insulation benefits.
  • Mirror Effect: Depending on the sun’s angle, the glass may reflect light, creating a subtle mirror-like appearance.

Perfect for both aesthetic appeal and functionality, our glass doors offer a sleek and modern look with exceptional performance.

FINISH

Our doors are coated with high-quality automotive paint, ensuring durability and a sleek finish. To provide enhanced protection against corrosion, we use a galvanizing spray on the iron base before applying the primer and paint.

The coating process involves:

  1. Galvanizing Spray: Offers robust corrosion resistance.
  2. Primer Application: Applied after the galvanizing spray to create a strong base.
  3. Automotive Paint: Provides a long-lasting, vibrant finish.
HANDCRAFTED UNIQUENESS

As all our products are handmade and hand-painted, slight color variations may occur compared to the photos. This process ensures that every order is truly one of a kind.

JAMB DETAILS

Our door jambs are designed for durability, insulation, and ease of installation, ensuring high-quality performance and functionality.

CONSTRUCTION

A steel threshold is included and comes pre-welded to the jamb. Specifications differ for in-swing and out-swing doors:

In-Swing Threshold
  • Interior Height: 1 1/8”
  • Exterior Height: 1/2”
  • Width/Depth: 6”
Out-Swing Threshold
  • Interior Height: 1 1/4”
  • Exterior Height: 1/2”
  • Width/Depth: 6”
INSTALLATION FEATURES
  • Brackets: Welded tabs with pre-drilled holes allow for easy and secure installation.
  • Hinges:
  1. Type: Steel weld-on bullet hinges with grease fittings for smooth operation and long-lasting durability.
  2. Design Advantage:

Our hinges use copper crush washers instead of ball bearings. Ball bearings, made of harder stainless steel, can wear out softer steel hinges over time.

Copper washers serve as the soft point, reducing wear and tear on the hinge and door. These washers are also easily replaceable when needed.

Our expertly designed jamb and hinge system ensures smooth door operation, longevity, and ease of use while maintaining the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.
